Facebook in the centre of new controversy post board member’s tweet

Marc Andreessen, a Facebook board member and well known investor, made a tweet post TRAI’s ruling on differential pricing that seemed to support colonialism. Though the original tweet has since been deleted, here is a screenshot -

The thoughtless tweet once again immersed Facebook in a controversy and one that it definitely does not want after the fiasco that was FreeBasics.

Facebook moved quickly to distance itself from Marc Andreesseon’s tweet and CEO Mark Zuckerberg came out with a public apology. Anderson, himself, tweeted a rather long apology later.

“I want to respond to Marc Andreessen's comments about India yesterday. I found the comments deeply upsetting, and they do not represent the way Facebook or I think at all,” wrote Zuckerberg.

Meanwhile, outrage on Twitter reached fever pitch, especially in South-east Asia.

Finally, Andreessen tweeted an apology and retracted his statement.
