Following in the footsteps of consolidation in digital marketing agency space in India, digital marketing training sector sees its first M&A deal with acquisition of Digital Academy India.
According to a recent report by GroupM, digital advertising will account for 9.51 per cent of overall ad spend of Rs 49,000 crore in India in 2015. Among various ad channels, digital will show the fastest growth of 37 per cent. To cater to this growth along with ever-expanding growth of other digital media channels, industry needs to build a strong talent pool. Digital marketing education firms such as Digital Vidya will have to play an important role in bridging the gap between available and needed digital marketing talent.
Started by IIT Delhi alumni and serial entrepreneurs Pradeep Chopra and Kapil Nakra in 2009, Digital Vidya has contributed to the growth of over 6,000 professionals from over 3,000 brands across Asia through over 300 digital marketing training programmes.
Certified Digital Marketing Master (CDMM), a digital marketing master certification course offered in association with Vskills, a Government of India initiative, is Digital Vidya’s flagship course.
Digital Vidya also offers customised in-house digital marketing training programmes for corporations and has served over 100 organisations such as Philips, Intuit, GE, Cisco, Times Internet, Citibank, Adobe, SAP, Sony, Wipro, EY, Pernod Ricard, Viacom18, and Reliance. It also partnered with Google and Microsoft in India to empower and enable their partners in leveraging digital marketing for their growth.
Speaking on this acquisition, Digital Vidya’s CEO & Co-founder Pradeep Chopra said, “Having Digital Academy India as part of our family will further strengthen our leadership position in digital marketing training industry. This acquisition will help us expand our reach and further enhance the quality of our digital marketing certification programmes for our customers and partners by leveraging the strengths and experience of Digital Academy India.”
Gaurav Oberoi, Founder and CEO, Digital Academy India, said, “Through this association, we’re combining the best of two extremely strong players in this industry. This consolidation of expertise in training and certification will create a great learning platform for individuals and organisations wanting to leverage the power of digital marketing. We’re certain that this consolidation would result in tremendous value for both the organisations and their respective clients and partners.”
Sharing his views about this acquisition, Mahesh Murthy, Managing Partner, Seedfund and Founder Pinstorm said, “I’ve had the pleasure of knowing and working with Pradeep and Kapil for over a decade. And I’ve been an eyewitness to the growth of their baby, Digital Vidya over the last five years. I’m proud of the fact they’ve now made their first acquisition and this further leads me to believe that they will rule the market when it comes to training on digital marketing in India, a fast-booming field.”
Post acquisition, the management team of Digital Academy India has completely exited the venture. Chopra said, “Gaurav and team have been instrumental in nurturing Digital Academy and creating strong brand equity. We wish them the best in their future endeavours. Both the brands will continue to co-exist as they offer uniquely different digital marketing training programmes.”
