Delhi HC orders 219 websites blocked after MSM's complaint

As per media reports, the Delhi High Court has passed an updated order blocking 219 websites after a complaint received from MSM that these websites are infringing on its exclusive rights to broadcast the FIFA World Cup 2014. Earlier, the High Court had ordered 472 websites to be blocked, which has now been brought down to 219 as per the updated order.

MSM operates the Sony network of channels as well as Sony SIX, which is the official broadcaster for the FIFA World Cup in Bangladesh, Bhutan, India, Maldives, Nepal, Pakistan and Sri Lanka. Reports say that the company had filed a complaint in Delhi HC on June 20, 2014, acting on which, the Delhi HC filed a judgement ordering the list of 472 websites to be blocked by ISPs.

However, it may be noted that neither the original judgement, nor the July 1, 2014 updated judgement are visible on the Delhi HC website. MSM had not replied to a request for clarification at the time of filing this report.
