IMCL, the digital arm of DB Corp Ltd, is gearing to launch a news website in English. The new website from IMCL, which already has three websites including in Hindi and Gujarati languages, will focus more on local news. The website will be targeted at NRIs and those who have moved out to the metros and are interested in local news of their native places. Vinay Jha is the Editor of the new website.
In conversation with exchange4media, Gyan Gupta, Business Head, IMCL, said, “English language readers is a large market and there are many who want regional news in English language too. This website will be dedicated to them and will also help us expand our digital reach. We will have differentiated content on website, including hyper local news content.”
When asked how this website would be different from other existing news portals, Gupta replied that the new website would not be a replica of the newspaper as most other players were. “This website will be updated continuously by ‘real time reporters’ reporting from the ground zero,” he maintained.
Speaking on the content of the website, he said, “The website will carry state wise content. NRI readers will also be kept in mind while working on the content. We want to give a local flavour to the news with in-depth reports.”
IMCL has appointed a separate team for this new venture, however, the sales team will be the same for the all websites. Speaking on the monetisation of website, Gupta said that it would have local, national and international readers, which gave an opportunity to national advertisers and local advertisers to reach out to their TGs. “Lots of big brands want to go regional and we are keeping an eye on them,” he added.
“The URL of the website is still being discussed and very soon we will able to finalise something on it,” Gupta concluded.
