The Internet & Mobile Association of India (IAMAI) has a new leadership with Anupam Mittal as Chairman and Dr Subho Ray as President. These changes will be effective from April 1, 2006. They take over from Neville Taraporewalla and Preeti Desai, respectively.
Mittal, Chairman & MD, People Group, commented, “Under the able guidance of Neville and Preeti, IAMAI has played a significant role in organising and bringing together the Internet and mobile industry towards a common vision and agenda. IAMAI now enters its third year, and has grown from an idea to being the most credible authority on the Internet and Mobile VAS industries in this country. The foundations have been laid to collectively build one of the leading digital and networked economies of the world.”
Observed Dr Ray, who is ex-Director, IT & Telecom, CII, “E-commerce, M-Commerce and mobile content are some of the most exciting sectors today in India. Proliferation of Internet and Internet access through mobile communications has the potential to bring a wide range of financial transactions to an entirely new customer base.” He emphasised that IAMAI would play a crucial role in channeling the digital economy’s effort and “continue our concerted efforts to bring 100 million Indians online by 2007.”
IAMAI has also announced the appointment of Avnish Bajaj, CEO, eBay India, as Vice-Chairman, and Ravi Ramu, CFO, Times Internet, as Treasurer.
