Amit Shah’s son Jay to sue The Wire for Rs 100 crore over defamatory report

Soon after The Wire, an English news website, published an article titled “The Golden Touch Of Jay Amit Shah” alleging that BJP President Amit Shah’s son Jay Amitbhai Shah saw a dramatic increase in some of his businesses since Narendra Modi became the prime minister, the latter decided to sue the author, editor, and owners of the website for Rs 100 crore for defamation.

The Wire had reported that a year after BJP was elected in 2014; Jay Shah’s Temple Enterprise Private Ltd showed a 16,000 times increase in its revenue and then shut down abruptly. exchange4media cannot independently verify any allegations made in the article. The article went viral online and became such a talking issue amongst netizens. According to The Wire's Founding Editor Siddhartha Vardharajan's tweet, the website went down on October 8 due to “unusual traffic.

Defending Amit Shah’s son BJP leader and Union railway minister Piyush Goyal held a press conference and said, "It is a totally malicious and defamatory article. Jay carries out a fully legitimate and lawful business on commercial lines which are reflected in income tax (filings) and transactions in banks."

Rajeev Chandrashekhar, Member of Parliament and an investor for Republic TV, had filed two defamation suits worth Rs 10 crore each against The Wire in March 2017 against two articles that the website had published.

Prior to this, E-Cool Gaming Solutions – a company linked to zee-tv_1336.html">ZEE TV owner Subhash Chandra registered a criminal defamation case against The Wire in July 2017 for an article published on the website following which its editors were summoned by the chief judicial magistrate in Aizawl, Mizoram.
