ActiveMedia Technology, a company specialising in mobile marketing and technology solutions, has recently launched SMS content subscription alert services in Hindi, Marathi and Punjabi for leading operators in India. These SMS services give operators the power to penetrate the masses with national and regional language based content services, thereby, resulting in an increase in VAS revenue from otherwise untapped segments.
For the past two years, ActiveMedia has been successfully running subscription services for major telecom operators in India (Airtel, Idea, Aircel, Spice) on its SMS short code 53636. Subscribers to these English and Hindi services can receive SMS alerts on content such as Jokes, Shayari, Bollywood Masala, Luv Messages, Word Power, News, Sports News, and Astrology.
Services in Hindi have proved to be extremely popular as it offers national reach. Subscribers to these services need to have Hindi compatible handsets for successfully receiving the desired content. One of the most popular among the services catalogue has been the Word Power service, where the customer is sent an English word daily along with its meaning and example in Hindi. For subscribing to this service, SUB WORD needs to be sent to the short code 53636.
Commenting on the new service launches, Raj Singh, Managing Director, ActiveMedia Technology, said, “The big opportunity for mobile content clearly lies in tapping the masses for whom English is not the language of choice. Increasingly, it will be regional and localised content offerings that would be required to successfully tap the mass market segments. We have successfully launched a portfolio of innovative national and regional language SMS services to specifically target this huge ‘VAS for mass’ market opportunity. The response has been very encouraging and we continue to roll out many more such services in the coming months.”
Building upon the success of Hindi SMS services, ActiveMedia Technology has now launched services in Punjabi and Marathi. Services in Punjabi include Gurbani, wherein the customer subscribing for this service receives daily a two-liner of the Guru’s words in Punjabi, a song message as enshrined in the Guru Granth Sahib. Customers can subscribe to this service by typing SUB GURBANI and sending it to 53636. This service was launched in Punjab with Airtel last month and has garnered a good response.
Charoli is a Marathi service launched in Mumbai and rest of Maharashtra, where customers who subscribe for this service get four lines of poetic text in Marathi daily. Customers can subscribe to this service by typing SUB CHAR and sending to short code 53636. This service too has been launched in association with Airtel.
Charges for these services have been kept nominal at Re 1 per day. ActiveMedia is now planning to venture into other regional languages such as Tamil, Gujarati, Malayalam and more in the near future.
