A jury is a community - and you get added as a friend- Meera Sharath Chandra@ Cannes 2009

After having donned the juror’s hat at The One Show and Clio, New York Fest and Art Directors Club that left me with vivid hues of an unforgettable experience, the proposition of representing the jury at the Cannes fascinated me to take another such stock. Much to my delight, I had an extremely competent bunch of jury members around me, each loaded with insights, warmth and fun. The bonhomie was inevitable.

Gauging the works we witnessed together as a jury, in my estimate, they were better as compared to last year‘s. Three Grand prix for a category speaks volumes about the siginificance of the Cyber world. And a good collection of metals too. The great work got the recognition it deserved.

Though I still believe that there’s more cyber stuff to be seen in the design, direct, promo, PR and media categories as well. Showing the all-pervasive nature of the virtual world. Digital is at the heart of the integrated campaign - and while that is a cliche mouthed by many agencies, it's true. And we, in the cyber jury, saw it.

The moot question is - Where is the interactive space heading? The answer is in where we as consumers of media are heading. There's an opportunity on the mobile, there's an opportunity on other interactive surfaces, there's an opportunity in social media, there's an opportunity to make the offline world digital. We are everywhere - and the possibilities are all around us. Some of it was apparent in the winning pieces - some of it was in the making and we knew next year would be a big one.

Perhaps it is time to stop calling digital a medium. The web is not just advertising space alone, up for sale. It's a library. A storefront. A dating rendezvous. A knowledge bank. A diary. A confession booth. An autobiography. An unfulfilled dream. A fulfilled dream. A hang out. An alternate reality. Media houses cannot put a price on the advocacy that happens in this space. And whether you flickr, twitter, face the book, tag or link in anyone, you are part of a community that's only growing. Exponentially.

Taking a thread from these communities, the one have built here is a set of jury pals who I enjoy meeting year after year, award forum after award forum. This is my belongingness. And I love where I belong to. And this is my world. Send a friend request and I shall let you barge in.
