Two In-Book honours for Indian creatives at D&AD Awards 2013

Two campaigns from Indian agencies took In-Book honours at the 51st D&AD Awards, which were judged at London’s Olympia by 200 of the world’s advertising and design creative leaders.

Work by Ramesh Deo Production for Nike titled “Nike Parallel Journeys” (Use of Music for Film Advertising) and Leo Burnett Mumbai for McDonald’s titled “Happy Sparrows” (Packaging Design) are the two campaigns that will feature in the D&AD Annual 2013 – a collection of the best advertising and design work from around the world. JWT India is the agency for Nike India, while Dhruv Ghanekar is the music director, who composed the music for the campaign.

In total, there were 614 D&AD In-Book and Nomination Awards given to work in this year’s Awards. At this stage (before Yellow Pencils have been awarded, which takes place in June), McCann Erickson Melbourne leads the pack with its work for Metro Trains (“Dumb Ways to Die”) scooping 14 In-book and Nomination plaudits.

There was a crop of awards too for 4Creative’s “Meet the Superhumans”, The Martin Agency’s “Clouds Over Cuba” for The JFK Presidential Library & Museum, R/GA’s Nike+ FuelBand, each of which got six awards from the juries. Work from AlmapBBDO (Getty Images’ “From Love to Bingo”) and Ogilvy Brasil (Claro’s “Road Letters” got five awards apiece.

Tim Lindsay, Chief Executive, D&AD said, “The 2012 D&AD Awards were disappointing for Indian agencies, with no work gaining In-Book recognition. However, the 2013 Awards has seen a modest return to form for Indian creative.”

In-Book refers to work that will be included in the Fiftieth D&AD Annual, which will be published in September 2013.

Nominations refers to work that will be included in the D&AD Annual and is also being considered by the Jury for the award of a Yellow Pencil, one of the most prestigious awards for creativity in the world.

Yellow Pencils will be awarded to the work that is judged to be the best in the world, selected from projects that receive a Nomination during judging. This year’s Yellow Pencil winners will be announced at the Awards Ceremony on 12 June 2013.
