STAR acquires indya.com

STAR has acquired the horizontal Internet portal indya.com. Announcing the acquisiton, STAR group executive vice-president Gary Walrath said the stake in the Pradeep Kar-promoted indya.com has been raised from 37 per cent to almost 100 per cent now. STAR and indya.com will together provide a template for integrated advertising and services for consumers on the lines of Sky Global Networks (SGN).

The remaining 21 investors in the portal including ICICI, certain mutual funds and individual investors like Vinod Khosla have exited from indya.

With STAR taking majority stake in indya.com, Microland group chairman Pradeep Kar’s ambitious foray into E-com seems to have taken a jolt with most of the other companies floated by him facing a crisis situation.

With the latest acquisition, STAR has a major presence in television, radio and e-commerce in the country.
