India is set to see a new mobile handset player Spark Mobile from UAE’s Spark Group of Companies. The company, which announced its India foray on September 30, 2009, is in the process of finalising its creative and media agency to support its launch. This was confirmed to exchange4media by Hitesh Malhotra, Marketing Manager, Spark Group of Companies.
Spark Mobile will be launching 20 mobile handset models this year and claims to provide the best pricing and features ever. The handset price range would start from Rs 2,000 onwards.
In a prepared statement, Elaine Ester Roach, Chairperson, Spark Group of Companies, said, “We have a strong base and respectable market share in the UAE and are now eyeing India as an important potential market for our growth strategy. We have a demonstrable past of challenging established brands, and are confident that our handsets would be a hit amongst the Indian audience. We are launching indestructible mobiles for indestructible Indians.”
She further said, “We are also aggressively appointing distributors all over the country in a bid to maximise penetration.” The mobile company will be targeting consumers across all segments and is also eyeing rural India in a big way.
Meanwhile, Spark Mobile will roll out a 360-degree marketing campaign in two months’ time in which mobile and Internet will play a crucial role. The company has also appointed actor R Madhavan as the brand ambassador for its new range of mobile handsets.
In keeping with its ‘indestructible’ tag, Spark Mobile handsets claim to be water proof, shock proof, with a one-month battery standby time. To prove the toughness of the handsets, the company also ran a four-wheeler over them. In addition, the handsets would also have multimedia, web and advanced music features.
Currently, the handsets marketed in the country will be manufactured in the UAE, where Spark Mobile has its production and R&D facilities. Spark Group of Companies includes Spark Wholesales, Spark Real Estate, Spark Media Services, Spark Travel, Spark Productions (Music) and Spark Events. The company aims to go global beginning with the India launch.
