Sify plans to expand i way across six metros

Satyam Infoway Ltd. (Sify) plans to expand the i way Internet browsing centre chain to 1,000 across six metros by December 2001. The company, which has 350 i way centres operating in Delhi, Mumbai, Chennai, Bangalore and Hyderabad, plans to expand to Pune, Ahmedabad and Kolkata soon.

The market size of the public Internet access centres is estimated to be around 10,000 and is expected to quadruple in the next five years. The company has adopted the franchisee model, where the franchisee makes investment in hardware, real estate, manage customer interface and operations, while Sify will provide technological and communication support, customised billing software and marketing support.
