Saatchi & Saatchi launches Clio Hero Show, photographer Oliviero Toscani to honour show

Oliviero Toscani, creator and photographer of possibly the most controversial advertising campaign ever for the Italian brand Benetton, and co-founder of Colors magazine, will honour the first Saatchi & Saatchi Clio Hero Show. This is a new annual programme that is being kicked off this year at the upcoming Clio Festival from May 9-12 at Miami Beach.

“The advertising industry is full creative pioneers, gurus, renegades, mould-breakers, mischief-makers, visionaries, genii and legends. They’re all candidates to be the star of the Saatchi & Saatchi Clio Hero Show,” Bob Isherwood, Worldwide Creative Director, Saatchi & Saatchi, said about the session.

Isherwood added, “Saatchi & Saatchi always champions new talent, but at the same time, we also believe in championing the famous and the notorious. Oliviero Toscani is the prefect example of such an individual.”

Isherwood, who will be recognised with the 2007 Clio Lifetime Achievement Award at this year’s festival, will explain the concept behind the new programme and introduce Toscani, who will then speak and open the floor to questions. The session is open to all holders of a Clio Passport, as well as those who purchase an individual a la carte daytime ticket.

“Creativity has to be subversive,” said Toscani, “It requires a state of non-control – of limitless courage. And that is why conformism is creativity’s worst enemy. Anyone who is unable to take risks cannot be creative.” Tony Gulisano, Managing Director, Clio Awards, added, “The Saatchi & Saatchi Clio Hero Show is a rare opportunity for Clio delegates to hear a hero speak, and an even rarer opportunity to ask a hero some questions. We are extremely delighted to partner with Saatchi & Saatchi and launch this exciting new programme element in the festival.”

The Saatchi & Saatchi Clio Hero Show is one of a number of outstanding sessions planned for this year’s Clio Festival. Other sessions will encompass areas such as branded entertainment, animation, production, interactive, mobile technology and others.

The Clio Awards, part of Nielsen Business Media, is among the world’s most recognised international advertising awards competition. Founded in 1959 to celebrate creative excellence and innovation in advertising, the Clios inspire and pay tribute to one of the most interesting and influential art forms in modern culture.
