RPG to acquire 30 per cent stake in Cricketnext.com

The RPG group is planning to acquire 30 per cent stake in the Walchand Capital promoted cricket portal Cricketnext.com. The group is also merging its cricket portal Fourthumpire.com with Cricketnext.com. The move follows after a failed attempt by the group to enter into Internet-related ventures through its company E-RPG.

The RPG group had set up E-RPG mainly to make foray into Internet-related ventures. As part of the process, the group had envisaged setting up a cricket portal, a women’s portal and a tyre, battery and accessories related portal.

But the group had to do a rethinking on the issue following the dotcom crash. According to the group Fourthumpire had a unique value proposition and it plans to use it to take the popular Ceat cricket ratings online through this portal. This is the very feature that Cricketnext would be looking at leveraging.

Around 350 clubs in Mumbai, Hyderabad and Bangalore had already registered with Fourthumpire. The idea behind the ratings mechanism is to take it to all levels by registering clubs and other smaller associations.

Crickenext has around 2,40,000 registered users and has had 50 million page views.
