Witnessing the acceleration in the digital sector, Results International closed three deals in South Asia in quick succession, to a total value of around $45-$50 million over the entire term of the deals in the first quarter of 2013.
All three deals were in the digital sector involving the acquisition of Resultrix Media by Publicis Groupe (Vivaki), iStrat Software by Publicis Groupe (Publicis Capital) and Magnon Solutions & Magnon International by Omnicom (TBWA). The Indian economy is favourable to the sector which is expected to grow over 10 per cent in 2013.
Commenting on the outlook for mergers & acquisitions (M&A) in the region, Sunil Gupta, Managing Partner – South Asia at Results International said, “There is a real acceleration in the pace of digital sector deals taking place in India. We see this trend continuing as the network agencies continue to strengthen their digital capabilities and as independent digital businesses reach a glass ceiling, in terms of resources and client access. However, as time goes on, the independents who will be the most attractive to buyers will be the ones who have the foresight to develop specialised, high-margin, high value services. Any agency offering the standard suite of digital services with no particular USP will find it more difficult to attract a strategic partnership with a larger player.”
Gupta added, “If we look at the marketing communications industry more broadly, mobile, digital, social media, ecommerce and retail services, experiential and technology and software services are all likely to enjoy huge growth and therefore represent a significant opportunity for strategic tie-ups with global/regional companies. Those who do will reap the benefits of partnering with these ‘hidden’ gems in one of the fastest-growing consumer markets in the world.”
