Reporter’s Diary: Get Set Go!

My city has often put me in a fix – right from the first day of my journalism career. I will never forget that adventurous day when I took four and a half hours just to reach office, thanks to the Rain God!

I come from an agency background when I worked with them as their publicist; yes, you read it right. I am sure an inquisitive mind would wonder why a publicist turned around and chose the path of journalism. Well, to cut short the long story – I took this U-turn to get back to my roots, where I think I always belonged.

With an exploratory mind, I began my chase for stories and to my very good luck I could break my first exclusive story in my first week at exchange4media about Milestone Brandcomm’s expansion. This fetched me good comments from my editorial heads and propelled me to what I call an exciting phase of my life.

Music is another thing that keeps my nerves alert all the time and when I was official assigned to cover the business of radio in India in my second week of journalism, my happiness grew by leaps and bounds. I kept hearing radio day in and out, well not only to understand the channels and their campaigns better, but to energise myself to get the right story plug for my first business feature story.

Looking at the spirit of Ganesh Ustav and the diversity of music that we have, Eureka! There I get my idea for my story – I could put together a complete big story on Ganesh Ustav radio campaigns. Things were placed well, my story was out and I get a ‘great work done’ mail from Nitin Rajan, Head – Content & Product, Digital Media & New Business, Radio City. What more can I expect! Great encouragement from the team and from the industry will drive me hard to put together great stories.

Another memorable experience in the recent past was meeting David McDonald, Head of YouTube Program Partner, for their official launch in India. The interaction gave me a great sense that India is moving quickly to the digital space and making a mark in the international markets as well.

Well, with every perfect thing there has to be some trouble involved and thanks to the auto strike of my city, I have to literally run from one place to another to reach for the Bosch home appliances launch, phew! I made there just on time and met some great global heads.

Like I said, to keep chasing the best you will have hurdles that will come along all the time, where’s the fun if things are too smooth on the runway? Ending this note in a rush to attend the ‘Ra.One’ one press conference in the presence of Shah Rukh Khan, I better go running. I just got a call from my best friend who is a die heart fan of Mr Khan and that the autowalas have brought a morcha to Bandra (where our office is located ) and I should leave for the conference right way so that I am not late to meet him. So I get better going now and get some happening stories for my team. Until then, be good, stay happy…
