Radio One has lined up two new programmes around Diwali, keeping the two biggest passions of Indians in mind – cricket and Bollywood. The FM channel will have a show celebrating the much awaited SRK-starrer 'Don – The chase begins'. The second show will focus on the ongoing ICC Champions Trophy.
The channel will be showcasing the original 'Don', where its cast and crew would be sharing their experiences about the film.
Elaborating on the show, Vishnu Athreya, VP-Programming, Radio One, said, "For the first time in radio history you will also hear the radio edit of the movie in a completely different form with a commentary from the cast and crew of the original 'Don'." Apart from the old 'Don', the channel also has interesting elements from the new version, with interviews of Shah Rukh Khan and other cast members, along with a funny take on the remake titled 'Don ki Paathshaala', where the new Don gets trained by the old Don.
The cricket coverage, in association with the BBC, will have cricket stars and cricket experts on air discussing the ICC Champions Trophy series as well as have other cricketing talks.
The cricket coverage will have ball-by-ball updates, sports bulletins, interviews with cricket stars like Rahul Dravid, Sachin Tendulkar, Virendra Sehwag, Ricky Ponting and Brian Lara, and some great contests where the listeners can win the actual jerseys of the Indian cricket team courtesy Nike.
Speaking on the association with BBC for the cricket coverage, Athreya said, "Their coverage of the event is spectacular and they understand what the radio format demands, which is a very important in a market where there is so much cricket all around."
The channel aims to capture listeners during the long Diwali week and weekend with these two new shows.
