Power jury meets to select IMPACT's 50 Most Influential Women, 2015

A high power jury chaired by Sam Balsara, Chairman and Managing Director, Madison World, met on Thursday to finalize a ranking of 50 women who have redefined the dynamics of power and influence in the Indian Media, Advertising & Marketing domain under the aegis of IMPACT from the exchange4media Group. This is the fourth edition of IMPACT’s ‘50 Most Influential Women’ list to recognize the inspiring leadership, immense contribution and remarkable achievements of women in the industry. It will be unveiled at an event in the second week of March.

Besides Jury Chair Sam Balsara, the jury comprised Vinita Bali, former MD, Britannia Industries Limited, S Raghunandan, CEO, Jyothy Laboratories, Farokh Balsara, Partner, EY, Sandeep Chaudhary, CEO Aon Hewitt India, Shashi Sinha, CEO, IPG Mediabrands, India and Nakul Chopra, CEO- S Asia, Publicis.

exchange4media presented a collated shortlist of 86 women achievers in the Media, Marketing and Advertising domain to the jury, including nominees from a month long campaign inviting nominations online, relevant names from last year’s list as well as new achievers in the industry. After a process of intense debate and discussion, the jury evaluated the nominees to come up with the final ranking of IMPACT’s 50 Most Influential Women, 2015.   

Commenting on the jury process, Sam Balsara said, “I am delighted to be the jury chair for IMPACT’s 50 Most Influential Women List in media, marketing and advertising for the fourth year in a row. It is indeed a very good initiative for an industry that has a large number of women, if not dominated by women. We had a very interesting discussion on the definition of the word ‘influential’, as to what is influential and who technically qualifies to be on this list. We also had a debate about whether or not to include women entrepreneurs who have succeeded in making powerful brands, like Mira Kulkarni of Forest Essentials, Mrs Becter of Cremica, Vandana Luthra of VLCC, Shahnaz Hussain of Shahnaz Herbals... But we felt this is not a list of powerful brands driven by women, but a list of 50 highly influential women in Media, Marketing and Advertising. There are some surprises that you will see and I hope you agree with me and my jury on the final list that we have arrived at. The list reflects the dynamic state of our industry, and the role that women play. We have as many as 13 new names on it, which is very good and that is how it should be.”

Last year, Rama Bijapurkar, highly acclaimed market strategy consultant and business author, led the list of IMPACT’s 50 Most Influential Women. Prabha Parameswaran, Managing Director, Colgate-Palmolive, ranked second, followed by Ireena Vittal, Strategic Consultant and Independent Director; Ekta Kapoor, Joint Managing Director & Creative Director, Balaji Telefilms; and Barkha Dutt, Group Editor, NDTV in the 2014 list.
