Palm, a company specialising in mobile computing, has entered the Indian market with the launch of Palm Treo 750 smartphone in India. Priced at Rs 26,990, the Palm Treo 750 is the first Treo smartphone to be introduced on the Airtel network, besides being the first Windows mobile-based Treo smartphone to be launched in India.
The Palm Treo 750 combines Palm’s one-of-a-kind user experience with a multi-featured mobile phone with email, messaging, web browsing and organisation software, all in a new compact design. The new smartphone is capable of 3G for fast data access. It comes with Microsoft’s direct push technology for Windows mobile.
“Over five million Treo smartphones today are being used by companies and individuals around the world, and continuing to expand the Treo footprint is the key focus for Palm. India is an important market for Palm, and these smartphones are well poised to meet the growing demand by Indian consumers who want a compelling mobile computing experience,” said Sharon Ee, Head of Business-South Asia, Palm Inc.

According to IDC estimates, smartphone grow from 3.7 million units in 2007 to 9.2 million units by 2011. The competition for the smartphone comes from imate, iPAQ and Blackberry.
Ee explained that the company is targetting to be among the top three players in India. “We are targetting the corporates, since the phone is in premium segment. We will be launching print campaigns next week in a few lifestyle magazines. The phone will be distributed through Brightstar Telecom India, the national distributor for the product, and will also be available at Airtel retail stores in Delhi, Mumbai, Chennai, Kolkata, Ahmedabad, Bangalore, Hyderabad, Jaipur, Pune and Chandigarh,” Ee added.
