NEW Sun TV’s game show with actress Ramya Krishnan to take on KBC2 in Tamil television market

Another Tamil game show is all set to air, this time on the leading Tamil entertainment channel Sun TV. Starting November 26, the new show from Radaan Mediaworks is slotted for Saturdays and Sundays, in the 9 p.m. to 10 p.m. time band. The show will be called ‘Thanga Vettai’ (Gold Hunt), and the anchor is none other than the ravishing Tamil actress Ramya Krishnan.

The producers share that the format will feature a family, anchor Ramya, the audience, and the yellow metal of allure, gold. The contest ingredients will include knowledge and luck, and the prizes, as one would guess by the name, will be in gold.

Why gold? Said Roy Joseph, COO, Radaan Mediaworks, “Well, it’s simple. In South India, especially in Tamil Nadu, this is one thing that people have had a bond with. Here, one is never too old for gold. From children to the aged, gold has been a treasured asset. From ceremonies to celebrations, from purchasing it to gifting it, it’s gold that has been in the limelight.”

The simulcast version of KBC2 airs on Vijay TV on Fridays, Saturdays and Sundays, in the 9-10 p.m. slot. This will pit it in direct competition for eyeballs on Saturdays and Sundays with ‘Thanga Vettai’ from end-November, and the new show promises a more regional flavour with the Tamil actress anchoring it, and with its format.

Just recently, Jaya TV announced its live game show with actress Meena as anchor. The channel already has a successful show in ‘Jack Pot’, hosted by another actress, Kushboo. Vijay TV’s second game show, ‘Vasool Rani’, targeted at women, is already on air. Being on Sun TV, ‘Thanga Vettai’ has the distinct advantage of airing on the market’s leading channel.

You bet, on Tamil channels the games are getting hotter.
