New businesses; new people; new agency… a busy 2008 for McCann Erickson

It appears to be a hectic year for the McCann WorldGroup. Between the advertising agency and the healthcare division, McCann has added close to 30 new businesses in the year. Adding to that, the agency had recently announced the entry of TAG – a new age communication outfit and had also strengthened up its creative team by recruiting two new creative directors namely, Tejol Kolwarkar and Juhi Chaturvedi at McCann Erickson. A heartening dimension of the business growth of McCann WorldGroup this year has been that the non-advertising business has shown a significant growth and is looking to grow even better in the coming year.

Some of the significant wins for McCann Erickson this year include Britannia Corporate Brand, Sun DTH, ING Corporate Brand and Nalli in South. The agency won businesses like GM – Captiva, SAIL, Alchemist Group, Dainik Jagran and IREO in New Delhi. Mumbai office further added businesses from Future Group, Hinduja Group, Aditya Birla Group, Kotak group and Reliance ADA Group to the overall kitty. The big one perhaps was Jet Airways, for which, the McCann WorldGroup created the special division – Altitude.

Prasoon Joshi, Executive Chairman, McCann WorldGroup, said, “These are challenging and exciting times in India. India, with its strong domestic consumption story, is an even more important market in the global scheme. Difference between truly strong brands and weak brands will be even more sharpened. Need to have strong brand ideas as a compelling business advantage is even more critical.”

To add to the overall action, McCann WorldGroup also finalised to bring its new-age communication company, TAG, to India. TAG is positioned as a creative hot-shop that “goes beyond the 30-second commercial is expected to get operational in the next three months”. Joshi explained, “We are proud to bring such a prestigious brand to the Indian market, which brings up-to-the-minute world-class strategic communication solutions to India.”

Joshi further said that this year, McCann Healthcare had established itself as a significant player in the healthcare communication domain. MRM has added significant expertise to its offering, and is making its presence felt in digital space.

McCann Erickson has also added new expertise to the agency – Tejol Kolwarkar and Juhi Chaturvedi have recently joined as Creative Directors. Kolwarkar and Chaturvedi have an industry experience of 14 years and 12 years, respectively, and would now be directly reporting to Joshi. Speaking on their appointment, Joshi said, “I have worked with both Juhi as well as Tejol earlier and know first hand how talented and capable they are. They are a great addition and will enrich the McCann team and creative product. I welcome them to McCann.”

There is still some time before the curtains fall on the year, but McCann Erickson sure has had a busy 2008.
