Madison Media launches two sub-brands; makes key structural changes

Madison Media has launched two sub-brands, Madison Media Plus and Madison Media Infinity. The agency has also made some key changes in its present structure. These include Punitha Arumugam elevated to Group CEO, and Ajit Varghese and Basabdatta Chowdhuri appointed COOs of the sub-brands, Infinity and Plus respectively.

Explaining more on the decision to launch the sub-brands, Sam Balsara, Chairman and MD, Madison Media Communications, said, "The independent names are to indicate the kind of autonomy with which these siblings of Madison Media will operate and hence they have independent COOs."

Balsara further added, "This is a ratification of the way in which it has been working for over a year now. The new organisation structure rewards the performer what was already operating informally."

The new COOs will report into Arumugam. Arumugam joined Madison in January 1999 as Media Services Director and moved on to become COO in 2001, before being designated as CEO, West in October, 2003. Some of the prestigious Madison clients like P&G, Godrej, Asian Paints, Cadbury, Kinetic, and Essel Group. Chowdhuri joined the agency in April 1998 as Media Manager and Varghese joined in July 1999 as Media Group and today both become COO of their respective units.

Balsara said, "Madison has always believed in hiring young people and entrusting them with responsibility and authority. The current set of organisation changes, perhaps the most dramatic since inception, is an extension of the same philosophy and recognises the outstanding commitment and performance of these individuals."

Recently, Madison Media has also elevated Gopakumar Nair to the position of Commercial Director and Deepak Agharkar to the position of Finance Director, both of whom provide the backbone for Madison Media to perform smoothly and efficiently. Last year Madison Media hired as many as 18 management trainees to prepare a pool of talent from which tomorrow's Madison leaders will emerge.
