Kumudam Publications entrusts Chennai-based shop WOC with creative duties

Kumudam Publications Pvt Ltd has appointed Chennai-based creative shop WOC as its creative agency. The group publishes several magazines including Tamil weekly ‘Kumudam’, ‘Kumudam Snegithi’, ‘Kumudam Bakthi Special’, ‘Telugu Bakthi Special’, ‘Kumudam Reporter’, ‘Kumudam Jothidam’, ‘Kumudam Health’, ‘Kumudam Theera Nadhi’ and ‘Kalkandu’.

Confirming that the shop had begun work on the account, Amudhan, MD, WOC, explained the agenda set for the agency. He said, “There’s a lot of activity in the pipeline at the Kumudam group. The recent NRS figures have put the flagship brand at No. 1 among the Tamil weeklies, and some of the group’s publications are set to undergo some substantial changes. The heartening thing is that they are looking at a long term partnership with the agency. We are absolutely thrilled that the client not only agrees with our aggressive communication style, but has made it the brief itself!”

Flagship ‘Kumudam’, a weekly, registered a readership of 3,698,000 (NRS 2006).

Stating that the intent of long term association was ‘encouraging and inspiring’, Amudhan added, “‘Kumudam’ has always been a leader brand. The idea is to reinvent and creatively interpret the communication to ensure top-of-mind recall. In a marketplace that is fiercely competitive, we look forward to embossing the ‘Kumudam’ brand among readers and advertisers. They are widely recognised as pioneers in bringing a sense of fun, humour and glamour into Tamil publications. It is our mandate to communicate this spirit.”

With this win, WOC, which handles daily ‘Dina Malar’ and the newly launched channel Makkal TV, has added one more media brand to its kitty. The shop also handles Textile India, Chennai Silks, innerwear brand Dixcy, restaurant chain Prime Roaster and developers Indira Foundations. The agency also recently bagged V-Gaan, a chain of vegetarian quick-service restaurants.
