Kalanithi Maran-promoted Sun Aviation to finalise creative partner shortly

Sun Aviation, promoted by Kalanithi Maran, which had called for a creative pitch recently, will be finalising a creative partner shortly. According to a company spokesperson, all the top 10 agencies of the country were in the fray for the Southern metro-based coveted aviation account.

Speaking to exchange4media, the spokesperson said, “We are in the process of shortlisting and finalising our creative partner.” He further said that Sun Aviation had set aside an advertising budget of Rs 7 crore for the launch phase.

When asked about the launch of the operation, the spokesperson said, “We will launch our operations very soon,” and added that the earlier deadline (January-February, 2009) as reported in the media, had been postponed and “we will launch now our operations in the next fiscal year”.

With Sun Aviation, Maran will be foraying into the aviation sector. According to media reports, Maran had recently bought the regional carrier Star Aviation, owned by Dubai-based NRI, Syed Mohammad. Star Aviation is the first carrier to get approval to operate a regional airline in the Southern part of the country. Sun Network, which owns Sun TV, Red FM, Tamil daily Dinakaran and Sun Direct DTH, has a licence as non-scheduled airline operator for chartered flights and air taxi services under the name Global Express. Two years ago, the company had won shareholder approval to operate commercial flights.
