JWT was declared Agency of the Year (National) at the fourth edition of the Advertising Club Calcutta’s Consumer Connect Awards held in Kolkata on March 29, 2008. The Agency of the Year (Kolkata) Award was shared by Bates David, Kolkata, and Genesis Advertising. JWT Mumbai bagged the Campaign of the Year Award for its Kurkure campaign.
The Consumer Connect Awards were instituted by the Advertising Club Kolkata, the oldest ad club in the country, in 2003 to mark its 50th year, and seek to honour communication that connect best with their respective target audience. All the entries are put through a rigorous research process conducted by Indica Research on a proprietary model, Consumer Resonance Impact Score. Following this, the shortlisted entries get an opportunity to present the thinking behind the work to an eminent panel of judges at a day-long Conclave.
The panel of judges this year comprised Bhaskar Das, Executive President, The Times of India Group and President, the Ad Club Bombay; Kiran Khalap, Co-Founder Chlorophyll Brand & Communications; Subhabrata Ghosh, COO, Saatchi & Saatchi, Bangalore and President & CEO of Celsius 100; Amitabha Datta, President-Dailies, The ABP Group; Sanjay Datta, Marketing & Development Research Manager, ITC Ltd; and Sudhir Chand, former Director-Corporate Affairs, Exide Industries.
The Consumer Services category was dominated by JWT – with the agency’s Mumbai office bagging the Award for Sunsilk Gang of Girls in National section. Bates David Enterprise won in the Consumer Services category (Kolkata) for Friends FM. In the Consumer Durables category, JWT Bangalore walked away with the first prize, nationally, while JWT Kolkata was the winner in the Kolkata agency category for their work for Exide Batteries.
In the FMCG category, the winner nationally was JWT Delhi for the Kurkure campaign, while the winner from Kolkata in this category was Genesis Advertising for the ‘Heavy weight’ campaign for Sreeleathers.
No award was won in the Public Service category.
The other highlight of the evening was the induction of Madison’s Sam Balsara into the Advertising Club of Calcutta’s hallowed Hall of Fame.
