As per the Indian Readership Survey 2009 R2 data, like most other publications, Oriya dailies, too, have seen the decline trend with six of the top seven publications showing a drop in average issue readership (AIR).
Sambad, the No 1 Oriya daily, has registered a 2.23 per cent decline from 1,705,000 in 2009 R1 to 1,667,000 in R2. Samaj, at second place, also declined 1.87 per cent, from 1,496,000 in 2009 R1 to 1,468,000 in the latest round. No 3 Oriya daily Dharitri has recorded an AIR of 1,342,000 in R2.
Samaya, which is placed fourth, has dropped by 11.01 per cent from 445,000 in 2009 R1 to 396,000 in the latest round. Saptahik Samaya has seen a drop of 11.19 per cent in AIR from 438,000 in 2009 R1 to 389,000 in R2, while Prajatantra has dropped from 129,000 in 2009 R1 to 115,000 in R2, a decline of 10.85 per cent. Kadambini has seen an 8.26 per cent decline in AIR from 109,000 in 2009 R1 to 100,000 in the latest round.
