International: Yahoo! appoints agencies for Southeast Asian marketing push

The global Internet company Yahoo! has appointed Euro RSCG Worldwide, a unit of Havas Advertising, and WPP Group''s Hill & Knowlton public relations consultancy to develop a year-long integrated marketing and communications program in Southeast Asia.

Billings were not disclosed, but Euro and Hill & Knowlton are tasked with expanding Yahoo!''s existing footprint as a leading Internet media company in Singapore, Malaysia, Thailand, Indonesia and the Philippines, as well as positioning its brand as a powerful business enabler and supporting Yahoo!''s media, mobile, commerce and enterprise businesses in those markets.

Euro RSCG will handle strategic and creative advertising, but not media, as Yahoo is currently reviewing its media assignment in Southeast Asia. Details about the pitch were not provided.

Although Yahoo! met with several unidentified Singapore agencies for informal discussions, there was no pitch for the advertising business.
