The One Club organised Creative Week NYC saw three award shows – One Show, One Show Design and One Show Interactive – being given out in the same week. India won six Pencils at One Show Design, but only one Pencil each at the One Show and One Show Interactive. The One Club officials, however, explained that India was maturing on the global awards platform and was already gaining more ground at these events.
Speaking more on the creatives seen from India, Mary Warlick, CEO, The One Club, said, “The work that is coming from India has both national and local flavour, and that is what makes it special. If you look at the ‘Lead India’ campaign – that was fabulous work and couldn’t be produced anywhere at all. The culture and the kind of excitement that ideas like these generated, is very peculiar to India.”
That said, India doesn’t seem to win a lot at The One Show. To this, Kevin Swanepoel, President, The One Club, replied, “India did very well last year, and even this year, the winning entries were brilliant. I have to also say that a lot comes down to which stage a country is in the entry process. India right now is new to the international award scene, and as a country India is maturing and has fantastic potential. So, I do see them really creating work that would win big at international awards in days to come.”
He added, “Another similar example is China. China enters a lot of work, but is not winning as much. It really is a part of the maturing process where people begin to understand the international process.”
Both officials in their conversations with exchange4media were excited about the potential that India holds as a creative destination. For them, India has grown year on year on the international stage, and they see this trend only accentuating further in years to come.
