Home videos of popular TV series new revenue destinations for distributors

Distributors have found a new revenue stream – home videos of popular TV series. This is evident from the recent release of the DVDs by Excel Home Videos of the second seasons of two very popular TV series – ‘Desperate Housewives’ and ‘Lost’.

M N Kapasi, Managing Director, Excel Home Videos, said, “There is a high demand for such DVDs in the market. Keeping this in mind, especially after the first season, we have increased the number of DVDs released this year.”

In its second season, ‘Desperate Housewives’, chronicling the lives of women at Wysteria Lane, shows the characters with new neighbours, steamier plots and loads of extra features like unaired story lines, deleted scenes, fashion and culture, juicy bites, directors’ views and other features on its DVD.

‘Lost’, the acclaimed drama about survivors of the Oceanic Flight 815, on the other hand, reaches new heights with the discovery that they are not alone in the fight with the ‘others’. In its second season, it reveals new realms of mystery and intrigue. Its DVD consists of over two hours of bonus features like the Lost flashbacks, deleted scenes, and bloopers that took place on the sets.

The success of these series on home video has been a shot in the arm for DVD TV with other television series like ‘24 Season’ and ‘Grey’s Anatomy’ queuing up for a DVD release soon.
