HBO replaces SET with Turner International to handle ad sales, distribution

Movie channel HBO has appointed Turner International India for managing its ad sales and distribution through the Zee Turner joint venture in India from January 1, 2005. … replacing SET which was handling the operations since January 2003.

Steve Marcopoto, President and Managing Director, Turner Broadcasting System Asia Pacific, Inc., said after having partnered with HBO to launch the channel in India almost four years back, “we are happy to be in business together again”.

HBO will now be an integral part of the Zee Turner bouquet that features Zee TV, Zee Cinema, Cartoon Network, Pogo, CNN and a number of other regional channels.

Jonathan Spink, CEO, HBO Asia, said SET India had been the exclusive advertising sales and distribution representative since January 2003. “The alliance has helped in growing the India business. However, now the Zee Turner alliance will help in building strong business in the country,” he said.

HBO entered the Indian market in September 2000 with the backing of four major Hollywood studios (Warner Brothers, Paramount Pictures, Universal Studios and Sony Pictures Entertainment). The channel is available in over 20 million households.

In the coming months it will showcase blockbuster movies like ‘Swordfish’ starring John Travolta and Halle Berry, ‘Chill Factor’ with Cuba Gooding Jr., ‘The Glass House’ featuring Diane Lane, Stuart Little 2, ‘Mr Deeds’ with Adam Sandler, the critically acclaimed series ‘Sex and The City’ and the new series of Carnivale.

Dheeraj Kapuria, CEO, Zee Turner, says with this addition to the bouquet “we aim to become the market leader in the domain”.
