Mumbai rains failed to dampen the spirits of media agency professionals in India, most of whom endured three-hour long journeys and long walks from Mahim to Bandra, to make way to the Taj Lands End hotel to celebrate the one night dedicated only to media agencies.
Ignoring the downpour, EMVIES was announced with much fanfare and celebrations on September 3, 2012.
Agency CEOs and top leaders displayed their competitive, and festive, side and the youngsters in the system displayed team loyalty and the thrill of hooting, cheering and clapping for their agencies, sister agencies and at times even competition agencies.
There was no surprise when Mindshare was announced EMVIES Media Agency of the Year. The agency has retained the title for the fifth year in a row. Mindshare bagged four Golds, seven Silvers and six Bronze EMVIES giving it a total score of 160 points.
Some bit of surprise did come in Madison Media Pinnacle, the unit that focuses only on Cadbury India, winning the second place with six Golds, four Silvers and one Bronze EMVIE, taking its total to 135 points.
Maxus took the third spot with 85 points coming on the back of three Golds, two Silvers and four Bronze EMVIES.
Madison Media Infinity managed 65 points that gave it the number fourth spot, courtesy one Grand EMVIE for Saffola, two Golds, one Silver and one Bronze.
Lodestar UM did not see its usual high this year and took the fifth position with two Golds and six Bronze EMVIES giving it 60 points.
MEC with 55 points (one Gold, one Silver, six Bronze), GroupM-Dialogue Factory with 45 points (two Golds, one Silver, one Bronze), MediaCom with 35 points (one Gold, one Silver, two Bronze), Starcom MediaVest Group with 35 points (one Gold, two Silvers) and DDB Mudra Max with 30 points (two Silvers, two Bronze) formed the top 10 Media Agencies at EMVIES this year.
