D&AD invites Piyush Pandey to be Ambassador of the ‘White Pencil’

To celebrate its 50th anniversary in 2012, the D&AD has launched an initiative called ‘White Pencil’. D&AD has invited Ogilvy’s Piyush Pandey to be the ambassador of this initiative.

The White Pencil is awarded to a creative idea that changes the world for the better; an idea that demonstrates the ability to influence real and positive change in the world. Launched in 2011, the first competition will bear fruit in 2012.

The launch event of D&AD White Pencil was held in London on Tuesday, April 12, 2011. The partner cause chosen by D&AD for the inaugural award is Peace One Day, a global charity working to establish Peace Day (September 21).

On the honour, Piyush Pandey, Executive Chairman & Creative Director, Ogilvy South Asia, said, “For me this means taking the message to the world and share with them the cause, the opportunity and the challenges of the initiative. These awards are open for everybody. I am really excited about this.”

In another development, Pandey has also been invited by Berlin School, where he has been faculty for the last two years, to be Godfather of Piyush Pandey Class. An honour such as this has been bestowed in the past to creative visionaries such as John Hegarty, Michael Conrad, John Gough, Kieth Reinhard and Seymour Stein . Pandey is the first Indian to receive such honour.

On this development, Pandey said, “Previously, there have been 2-3 ‘Godfathers’. It’s not enough to source talent to be successful in today’s creative industries, one has to nurture, encourage and develop creative talent on an on-going basis. By emphasising on the importance of effectively combining creative thinking with leadership sharpness, the Berlin School’s EMBA program offers tremendous value to creative companies as well as their clients.”

“We are thrilled to have won Piyush Pandey’s support for the School as an industry mentor, Pandey’s accomplishment as a creative as well as their clients,” said Michael Conrad, President, Berlin School of Creative Leadership.

Pandey’s previous involvement with Berlin School includes commencement speaker at the 2009 EMBA program graduation ceremony and speaking at the closing of the inaugural Cannes Creative Leaders Programme in 2010.
