Creativity in the spotlight at Calcutta Ad Club's Creative Excellence Awards on February 10

Advertising Club Calcutta, the oldest advertising club in the country, will hold its annual awards ceremony for Creative Excellence on February 10, 2006 at the Royal Calcutta Turf Club. For the last couple of years the Advertising Club Calcutta had experimented with a new format, whereby the annual awards were more for 'Consumer Connect' than for creative excellence alone.

In fact, in keeping with this orientation, entries were being actually shortlisted on the basis of consumer connect scores generated through research commissioned by the club expressly for this.

Subsequently, it appears that it has been felt that creativity cannot be given a back seat and, therefore, this year, while there are plans to hold the Consumer Connect Awards in July, the Creative Excellence Awards have been revived.

However, the new focus this year is on creativity emanating from the somewhat out of the spotlight Eastern Region, and accordingly entries have been restricted to work done by agencies from the Eastern states as well as Bangladesh, Nepal and Bhutan.

Said Sidhartha Roy, Vice-President, Advertising Club Calcutta, "After all, the creative fraternity from this part of the world deserves an exclusive awards for creativity only."

The new-look competition has attracted over 300 entries this year in categories such as FMCG, consumer durables, services, retail and public service, with multiple media led sub-categories within each. There are awards for creativity in the specialised areas of direct marketing, corporate communication and even cyber media.

These have been judged by a panel of judges comprising actor Victor Bannerjee, ad veteran Ram Ray and Kiran Khalap.
