Creative Abby update: Erring agencies yet to be informed

It’s been more than 10 days since an official statement came from Bhaskar Das, President, Ad Club Bombay, about the Club discovering after investigation the breach of some jury members voting for their own agencies, following which, the Club decided to point out the instances of this breach to the respective winners and appeal to their conscience and better judgment to voluntarily return the Creative Abby Awards that they had received. It is now known that the Ad Club is still in the process of preparing the draft of the letter that is to be sent to the agencies that erred. Thus, the current situation is that the agencies have not received any intimation of their fault and don’t know which agencies are really in the line of fire. It is also known that probably the letters would be sent this week.

According to the Ad Club statement, it was found that the breach occurred in 29 instances, involving multiple agencies, out of 4,117 entries for the Awards. While one would have guessed some agencies who would be caught in this, there seems to be a lack of clarity on the actual number of agencies.

KV ‘Pops’ Sridhar, NCD, Leo Burnett, who has been vociferous in his protest to bring about transparency to the Awards, has now decided not to talk about the erring agency as it’s a legal matter, with Mudra sending a legal notice to Leo Burnett and him. Now, the agency has involved a legal team to take over the matter and reply to the allegations.

Meanwhile, Bipin Pandit of Ad Club commented, “We are in the process of drafting the letter, which will soon happen. After which, we will send it to the agencies, requesting them to return the trophies back. We are all pragmatic people and want to do the things in the right way. We are sure that the agencies, too, will respond, and whoever is referred to will return the trophy.”
