Five TV Commercials on the theme 'Conserve Water' have been selected as winners in the nationwide contest launched by ECO India. Of these, two have been selected for the Cannes Lions Advertising Festival 2004 and the other three commercials will be shown exclusively on leading Indian Television Networks.
There was a tie for Cannes between Manmohan Anchan-Ravi Eashwar-Ajith Kumar from Ogilvy & Mather Advertising and Chandrashekhar Vaidya from RKSBBDO, Mumbai.
The commercials that will be shown on the Indian TV Networks are created by Anand Vivek Thakur and Meenal Relekar, MBA students at the MET Schools of management, Mumbai and associated with O&M to create the commercials. The second position went to Bapi H Ajmera from Mumbai and the third commercial was created by Manoj Shroff, Prachi Singh and Anagan Nigwekar from Equinox Films, Mumbai.
The panel of jury comprising Peter Mukerjea, Govind Nihalani, Sam Balsara, Amit Khanna, Rajesh Pant and Kaushik Roy reviewed 43 different entries received from across the country. The themes covered, varied from the funny, emotive and drastic to the macabre. From animation to stark realism - the entries were of high standards for a 30-second or less commercial.
To give a background of the contest, Earth Communications Office - India Association had launched a nationwide contest for a 30-second or less commercial on the theme of 'Conserve Water' in December 2003. The contest was open to all - it could be an advertising agency, a creative director, a filmmaker or an NGO. The last date for receiving the commercial was 20th February 2004.
