Cannes Lions 2009: India wins its first ever Film Lions Gold, courtesy JWT India

Much like is the case every year, the last day of the Cannes Lions International Advertising Festival was reserved for the coveted Film Lions and the Titanium and Integrated Lions. India was a no-show in the Titanium and Integrated Lions, and Indian juror on the category, McCann Erickson’s Prasoon Joshi said that the need was for Indian agencies to package the entries well.

However, Film Lions brought quite a few cheers to the India camp. India has won its first Film Lion Gold, which was awarded to JWT India for the work done for The Times of India Chennai launch, entry titled A Day in the Life of Chennai. The entry has been awarded Gold in the Film Craft category and the in Music category.

India has won silvers over the years for Ericsson’s ‘One black Coffee’, Fevicol’s ‘Bus’, Happy Dent’s ‘Palace’ and Neo Sports’s Gas.

Some international members of the jury said that for some this was the first time that they had seen the entry and they were “Blown away”. The Indian juror Agnello Dias explained that the manner in which the dual lives, usually seen in India, was captured in the film, made all the difference for it.
