Cannes 2015: ‘Love and Creativity’ By Bobby Pawar

LOVE AND CREATVITY.
(Or the stuff that comes to mind after half a bottle of a rose in Cannes)

Long past midnight impatient hunger cries
Through broken dreams a mother sighs
Wrinkled sheets cling to her, as she wakes
As if saying, ‘come back, come back, to my restful embrace’

What makes her get up, is what makes her baby quiet
When he smells the tree on which he bore fruit is near
We are born of love, in love we grow
And everything we create does from that spring flow

Before you code, write or draw, love the empty page
Before that still you must love those for whom you create
Adore even their flaws, like you treasured
Your first girlfriend’s slightly crooked nose

Make their problems yours, their joys too
Wake up from their nightmares
Smile with their eyes, laugh from their mouths`
Your empathy will echo in every idea you push out

About great ideas, it must be said
Like a huge crush, they first make you afraid
If you only go after what’s gettable, that’s all you’ll get
Reach instead for the one that could get away

Woo it with sweat, talent and unselfish desire
Do it five times, and do it with many talented others
That’s the mantra for work that gets famous
You see, ideas (unlike spouses) are not naturally monogamous

We come to the beginning of where this comes to an end
Awards are like a gift from a lover, a joy to receive
But be wary of making them the reason you conceive
That’s like measuring love by the worth of the gift

PS: I was asked to share some of what I have learned in the biz, some of it has been at Cannes and other award shows, but mostly it has been come through legendary bosses, inspiring colleagues and super-talented juniors. Since I had heard the best way to reach kids (I’m older than you, so I’m allowed to call you that), is through rhyme, I thought let me try that. Although I now realize it doesn’t really rhyme. Maybe next time I will try my hand at rap.
