Cannes 2006: Titanium Lions Awards jury announced

Organisers of the 2006 International Advertising Festival, France - Cannes Lions 2006 - have announced the jury for the Titanium Lions Awards, into its fourth year now. The jury is headed by the first winner of the Titanium Lion, David Lubars, Chairman and Chief Creative Officer, BBDO North America, and is constituted by people from different disciplines of advertising.

“This multi-disciplined and incredibly talented jury will be looking to award this much sought-after Lion to ground-breaking and risky ideas that challenge the world of advertising and communication as we know it,” said Terry Savage, Executive Chairman of the Festival.

The jury members, who will work with Lubars in the 2006 festival, include Nick Brien, President and CEO, Universal McCann, New York; Scott Goodson, CEO and Chief Creative Officer, Strawberry Frog, New York; Chuck Porter, Chairman, Crispin Porter + Bogusky, Miami; Tom Eslinger, Director – Interactive, Saatchi & Saatchi, New York; Trevor Beattie, Partner, Beattie McGuinness Bungay, London; Craig Davis, Chief Creative Officer Worldwide, JWT, London; Warren Brown, Executive Creative Director, BMF Advertising, Sydney; Adriana Curry, Chairwoman and Chief Creative Officer, McCann Brazil, Sao Paulo; and Filip Nilsson, Creative Director, Forsman & Bodenfors, Gothenburg.

Several changes have been introduced to the Titanium Awards competition this year. Entries are open to all types of advertising, and there are no restrictions on the number of executions or limits on media used. The stress was on the idea, Lubars explained.

“When Dan Wieden conceived the Titanium Lion, it was to celebrate something bigger than a category like film or outdoor. It was about rewarding monster ideas,” said Lubars. “It recognises and rewards the brave thinkers who are reconsidering the way forward, who are breaking the rules – even rules set down by famous award shows. As a recipient of the first Titanium Lion, I’m glad to help carry on its vision,” he added in his message as jury President.

There is no fixed number of Lions the Titanium jury will award this year, and a Titanium Grand Prix, too, may be awarded only if the jury deems fit. The 53rd edition of the International Advertising Festival will take place between June 18 and 24. We hope to have stories to file on Indian winners on June 24, when the results are announced.
