Brand David, quietly taking on the Goliaths

After nearly a year since its re-launch, David, Ogilvy’s youngest agency brand, is set to move to a new office space in Delhi soon. David is headed by Vandana Das, who is reporting to Sanjay Thapar, Group President, Ogilvy, North & East.

In the meantime, David has been adding on to its clients’ list, winning brands such as Dabur Fem Dual Care Hair Removing Cream, Dabur Total Protect Shampoo and Dabur Lal Tail, besides handling the Lucozade portfolio from GlaxoSmithKline.

Speaking to exchange4media on the road ahead for the agency, Vandana Das said, “Priority would be to get the new office operational and nurture the current set of brands. The next step would be to attain some new businesses.”

Brand David has begun operations from Delhi and plans to consolidate the business here before looking at other cities.

As is known, much has transpired in the history of David in India. Following the rechristening of rmg David to David in October 2005, the agency was merged with Bates Enterprise in February 2007, in effect ceasing the operations of Brand David. The re-launch of David was announced in mid-2009.

When asked why the agency had maintained a low-key profile since its inception, Das replied, “The seed was sowed in mid-2009, but we were low key because we wanted to first acquire a separate office space, bring together a set of like-minded individuals, who are passionate and are aligned with organisational values, and only then be in a position to roll out.”

Das has been with Ogilvy for 16 years. Prior to that, she was with Leo Burnett. She has more than 20 years’ experience in advertising. On her role at Ogilvy’s youngest brand, she said, “Besides being responsible for all the businesses under Brand David, my role here encompasses looking after the office operations and adding more businesses in order to grow the new outfit.”

Brand David, which is Ogilvy’s third agency brand, currently has 14 members. Ogilvy’s second creative brand is Meridian.
