BPLnet launches wireless Internet to Kerala

BPLNET.com, the Internet solutions company belonging to the Rs 4,000-crore BPL Innovision Business Group, has implemented wireless Internet solutions for its customers in Kerala.

The company has successfully implemented world-class Internet infrastructure for the first few customers in Technopark here. This has been made possible by establishing connectivity between the microwave tower at Technopark with the Point of Presence (PoP) in Kochi, which is co-located with the Mobile Switching Centre (MSC).

The microwave backbone operational in the circles of Mumbai, Maharashtra, Goa, Tamil Nadu, Pondicherry and Kerala has enabled BPLnet to emerge as one of the country's most reliable ISPs.

The microwave network has reduced, and in some places altogether eliminated, dependency on the Department of Telecom (DoT) for providing the last-mile access. The company will soon introduce Wireless Application Protocol (WAP) services in Kerala.

BPLnet offers end-to-end Internet solutions that include dial-up access for individuals and businesses, high-speed DSL, MEN, application services, hosting and co-location services and Internet solutions. Services are already operational in eight cities across the country. The roaming Net services is sought to be made available in 85 countries.

In a survey of ISPs conducted by Chip magazine, BPLnet has emerged as one of the top three service providers in the country.

The company is readying to offer Internet access on television. Latest Net technology products are also on the anvil. BPL Mobile is the first company in India to launch the GPRS wireless Internet service. The company recently crossed the five-lakh subscribers mark.
