Srijon Sanman Awards 2008, which seeks to recognise excellence in advertising in Bengali, was held in Kolkata on August 23. Organised by Sangbad Pratidin, the Awards this year saw Bates 141 and Grey Dhaka shine. Ad filmmaker Prahlad Kakkar was inducted into the Hall of Fame.
Bates 141 was judged Agency of the Year (Kolkata) for the fourth successive year, while Grey Dhaka was adjudged Agency of the Year (Bangladesh).
Bates 141 Kolkata bagged 10 Golds and eight Silvers, mostly for their work for ABP and Friend’s FM. Best Copywriter of the Year Award went to Joy Aich Bhowmik of Bates 141 Kolkata. Sharmam Sultana Sumi and Abu Sufian Shamim, both from Grey Dhaka were also ajudged Best Copy Writers, Bangladesh.
Rediffusion DY&R Kolkata won two Golds – one in the Corporate Campaign category for Bengal Shrachi and the second one in the Outdoor Campaign category for Amaar FM. JWT Kolkata bagged one Gold and two Bronzes for their work for Institute for Steel Development and Growth.
Amongst the other Kolkata-based agencies to win metals was Inner Circle, which won a Gold in the Point of Purchase category for Tata Indicom, while Filmshop bagged two Golds for their work for Bisk Farm.
Anjan Chatterjee was awarded the ‘Bah Bangali’ Award, which has been introduced from this year to felicitate Bengali entrepeuners /corporate personalities.
The judges’ panel included names from both creative and corporate world such as Anjan Dutta, Chandra Bhattacharya, Srijato, Bapi Bit, Partho Ghose, Nibedita Basu, Bikash Mukherjee and Kalyan Sarkar.
