As part of its Golden jubilee celebrations held on January 21, 2007, Adverting Club Madras, the first ad club in South India and the third in the country, honoured its past presidents as well as advertising professionals who have contributed to the growth of the advertising industry in South India.
A special Golden Jubilee commemorative volume tracing the history of Advertising Club Madras and the history of the advertising industry in South India was also released on the occasion. Srinivasan K Swamy, Managing Director, RK Swamy BBDO, released the volume, while N Murali, Managing Director, The Hindu, received the first copy.
Those who were honoured included S Gopalan, Direstor, Adwave Advertising; Seshadri, MD, Visesh Advertising; V S Padmanabhan, former MD, Marketing Consulting & Agencies Ltd; R Neelamegham, CEO, Akshara Advertising; Bunty Peerbhoy, Chairman, MAA Group; Jacob Mathew, Executive Editor, Malayala Manorama; I Venkat, Director-Advertising, Eenadu Group; K N Shanth Kumar, Director, The Printers (Mysore) Pvt Ltd; R Swaminathan, MD, Sasi Advertising; P Jayendra, Director, Real Image; Ramanujam Sridhar, CEO, Integrated Brand Comm; Krishna Mohan, National Head, Training & Development, Ogilvy & Mather; and S Krishna, CEO, Pertinax Advertising Consultants.
R V Rajan, Chairman, Golden Jubilee Celebrations, said, “The commemoration volume not only traces the 50-year history of Advertising Club Madras but also attempts to record the evolution of advertising in south India in the last 50 years. It would be excellent reference book for those interested in the study of advertising.”
Rajan also mentioned that as part of the Golden Jubilee initiative, the club had already tied up with MICA, Ahmedabad, to conduct a certificate course in Advertising Management. The Club was planning to build a Golden Jubilee Commemoration Hall, too, he added.
Meanwhile, Ranju Kumar Mohan, outgoing president of Ad Club Madras, said, “Ad Club Madras owes a lot to its past presidents. The strength of Ad Club Madras is the involvement of our past presidents.”
Mohan presented mementos to 15 past presidents of the club who had helped build the club to its pre-eminent position in the advertising industry.
Earlier, the club organised a two-day convention ‘Future Shock III’. There were panel discussions by eminent speakers from advertising, marketing and communication who took stock of the changing dynamics of the communication industry, challenges, opportunities, creative, media, branding, and integrated communications.
