Asia Pacific Effie Awards has appointed Anthony Wong, Worldwide Effectiveness Director at Ogilvy & Mather Group and Global Client Leader, Team Huawei of WPP plc, as the 2017 Awards Chairman.
Throughout his career, Wong has helped his teams and clients achieve best-selling brand and product launches across categories and borders, and has won numerous Effie Awards and other marketing communications effectiveness awards. In 2016, he helped Huawei become the first Chinese brand to ever win a Euro Effie.
In addition to his corporate roles, he is an active leader in developing the marketing effectiveness agenda in Asia and beyond. He has spent a decade serving as Regional Judge, Finals Judge, Awards Presenter, Master of Ceremony, Expert Advisor, Vice Chairman and Chairman of the Jury at the China Effie. He has been a member of the APAC Effie Committee since 2014 and also held the role of a Head of Jury at the 2016 APAC Effie Awards. In 2016, he also served on the Creative Effectiveness Jury of Cannes Lions.
Wong’s achievements in effectiveness awards and deep involvement in Effies have earned him strong credentials as a champion of effectiveness. He was promoted to be the Worldwide Effectiveness Director in December 2015 to drive the effectiveness culture within Ogilvy.
Speaking on the appointment, Wong shared, “It is with humility and anticipation that I proudly accept the Chairmanship for APAC Effie 2017. David Ogilvy's famous quote, "We Sell, or Else" has never been more relevant or meaningful as the world continues its digital transformation to make brands matter and drive growth through great work. Effectiveness in communications is the lifeblood of any agency, and I will be working hard and closely with the organisers and the juries, to ensure that we set the gold standard in Asia and the world for excellence in effectiveness."
