The Advertising Standards Council of India (ASCI) has released its report for the period between January to March 2007, on advertisements that need to be modified appropriately, withdrawn, or concluded.
These include the ads of Coca-Cola, which they accuse has unsubstantiated statements made like “Coca-Cola is absolutely safe”, and Hero Honda created by JWT which shows a man running across a railway line while a train passes by.
JWT has also been pulled up for two other ads – Kellogg’s and Hero Honda, which also dangerous stunts being performed. Other agencies like Mudra, Ambience, O&M, Lowe, McCann Erickson and Rediffusion DYR have also been pulled up for their ads.
O&M’s ad for Neo Sports Broadcast has been pulled up for showing Western Indians being mistreated by Indians -- something likely to cause public disdain, according to the ASCI. The Lux ad by O&M, which shows sexually explicit dialogues, has also been asked for modification by the ASCI.
Lowe’s ad for LG Electronics has also been withdrawn because of unsubstantiated claims and McCann Erickson’s ads for General Motors that shows a dangerous act being performed has also been asked for modification.
