Ad Club Madras releases Golden Jubilee Commemoration volume

The Ad Club Madras has released the Golden Jubilee Commemoration volume as part of its Golden Jubilee Celebrations. The book details the saga of the Ad Club and how advertising and the club have evolved over the years, with miscellaneous articles and glossy pictures.

The book has been divided into three different sections. While the first part attempts to trace the history of the Ad Club, highlighting some important milestones and achievements of the past Presidents, the second section illustrates the regular events of the club with selected pictures. The third part, which deals with the evolution of the Ad Club in South India, has contributory articles from V Kalidas, Vice-President- Advertising, The Hindu; Dr Krishnaswamy, CMD, Krishnaswamy Associates Pvt Ltd; and Ramanujam Sridhar, Managing Director, Brand-Comm.

RV Rajan, who along with A Krishna shouldered the responsibility of bringing out the commemoration volume, said, “It took us 18 months of hard labour to bring out this Golden Jubilee Commemoration volume, which not only records for posterity the 50-year history of the Ad Club Madras, but also attempts to trace the evolution of advertising in India in the last 50 years.”

Rajan, Chairman of Golden Jubilee Celebrations Committee, Ad Club Madras, added, “Though this is not exhaustive, we believe that we have managed to put together a story which traces the origin and evolution of the Ad Club Madras during the first three decades, followed by consolidation and enviable growth in the next two decades.”

According to Rajan, Ad Club Madras was one of the most active clubs covering a wide variety of activities, including training, education, entertainment, sports, seminars, workshops, and quiz programmes, among others. In 1994, the one-year part-time Post Graduate programme in Advertising Management leading to a Diploma was introduced by Ad Club Madras. This was the first ever dedicated course on Advertising Management to be offered by any ad club or any association, including the AAAI. During the next 12 years, the Ad Club acquired a bigger property with a larger classroom and the intake of students increased. Discussions are also on now for offering other courses, both short and long term, including an integrated media management course in association with MICA.

Ranju K Mohan, President, Advertising Club Madras, described the commemoration volume as the most ambitious project of the Golden Jubilee Celebrations in the opening remarks of the book. The book is available at the Ad Club Madras.
