Ad Club Bangalore gets sporty with a football tournament for its members

Away from developing brand and advertising communications, ad executives and honchos alike would strategise on a different ballgame. And instead of a conference room, the venue would be a football field. The occasion: The annual football tournament of the Ad Club Bangalore for its members.

The tournament kicked off on May 22, with the group matches being held from May 22 to 24. The quarter-finals would be held on May 24, while the semi-finals would be held on May 25. All matches are being played under lights in the evening at the Karnataka State Football Ground near Hosmat Hospital.

The five a side football tournament is being played in FIFA style. A total of 16 teams have confirmed participation, which include McCann Erickson, O&M, Mudra, MAA Communications, Saatchi & Saatchi, Draft FCB, Rediffusion DY&R, GroupM, Madison, The Times of India, Indian Express, INX Media, Origami, Pentagon, Tag Media and Circle Advertising. Zee Kannada is the lead sponsor for the tournament.

Commenting on the tournament, PR Satheesh, COO, Tag Media Network, said, “This is an event which many in the industry look forward to as it gives a refreshing change from the usual account planning, creative or servicing aspect, which we do as part of our jobs. It attracts a lot of interest and a good opportunity for the industry people to come together.”

The Ad Club is also planning The Melting Pot in June, an event where a brief is given and teams have to come up with various communication ideas within 24 hours. Also, a quiz contest is planned for July, which will be followed by the Big Bang, the awards night of the Bangalore Ad Club.

Satheesh further said, “We have a decent group of members at the Ad Club. We wish that O&M and JWT would change their stance and participate in the awards too.”
