Even as the ad industry gears up for the Abby Awards 2007, which will be held in March, quite a few agencies have voiced their opinion about the hiked entry fees of awards events. This might affect participation in these events as exchange4media found out after talking to some agency honchos.
McCann Erickson is undecided about taking part at this year’s Abby’s. Prasoon Joshi, Executive Chairman, McCann Erickson India, said, “We have not taken any decision yet. We are planning to look at a few issues first, which we cannot comment about now, and then take a call. There are some changes we had wanted last year, which we are waiting for.”
Grey Worldwide is undecided too. Raj Kurup, Regional Creative Director, Grey Worldwide, said, “We are considering it. We are also planning to draw out a list and look at our budget. Entry rates have gone up. This makes it important for it to be a decision in terms of finance.”
Rediffusion DY&R is, however, sure they are not participating. K S Chakravorty, National Creative Director, said, “These award functions are becoming expensive. All of them are mostly the same. Most of them are not sufficiently differentiated. This year we are cutting down on which ones we participate in. I think given a choice, I’d rather participate in the Goa Festival as it is not just an event but also a festival.”
