Mark Patterson, APAC CEO, GroupM, on his recent visit to India, shares his thoughts on what makes India a unique market and some of the learnings the rest of the world could take from India. Patterson feels if he could capture the intangible essence of India, it would be commercialism, entrepreneurship, urgency, and a candid attitude that Indians have. “If I could capture the Indian spirit and sprinkle it in various markets around the world, we would grow a lot faster. This, to me, is the essence and uniqueness of India,” he said.
Patterson feels these qualities of India, in a way, are captured by way of export of talent, as Indians take their spirit and spread it in the rest of the world.
“The willingness to experiment is another quality unique to India. One of the challenges we have is diversifying our business; in India, we had to have a ceiling for scaling our growth vertically, so we have to grow horizontally. India leads the world in speed and success in diversifying the services offer we are able to deliver to clients,” he concludes.
