Motivator, Ogilvy on board for Al Jazeera biz

In the wake of a multi-agency pitch, Al Jazeera has assigned its media mandate to Motivator, while Ogilvy has bagged the creative duties.

It may be recalled that the Qatar-based international English news channel Al Jazeera had gone on air in India on November 16, 2011. Al Anstey, MD, Al Jazeera India, had emphasised at the time of the launch that the group was focusing on building the brand in India. “India is an emerging leader in today’s globalised world and a critical country for Al Jazeera English to broadcast across. We are confident that our coverage will be of enormous interest and value to audiences across India,” he had said.

In July last year, Al Jazeera had appointed Aidem Ventures as media representative for Al Jazeera English (AJE) and other flagship channels – namely, Al Jazeera Arabic, Al Jazeera Documentary, Al Jazeera Mobasher in India.

Launched in 2006, Al Jazeera English has over 70 bureaus across the world and reaches out to 250 million households in 130 countries. In December 2010, the Ministry of Information and Broadcasting (MIB) had granted a down-linking license to Al Jazeera English in India.

Agency officials were not available for comments at the time of filing this report.
