After a grilling round of presentations by agencies empanelled on Honda Motorcycle and Scooter India's (HMSI) roster, Grey has won the duties for an all new range of bikes to be released by the company in India shortly. Though no confirmations could be obtained at the time of filing this report, it is believed that the brand on pitch was Honda's latest offering - the all new Honda Dio 110 Motoscooter. The scooter is set to hit markets by end of January 2012 and a campaign is slated to hit the markets soon.
Industry sources have confirmed the news to exchange4media, though a comment from either Honda or Grey could not be obtained at this time.
It may be recalled that HMSI gave a glimpse of its upcoming product strategy by unveiling 7 new India specific two-wheelers across all motorcycle and scooter segments at the 11th Auto Expo 2012 in New Delhi. These included Dream Yuga, CBR 150R, 2012 model of CB Shine, 2012 model of CBR 250R, 2012 model of Dio, VT 1300CX and new CBR 1000RR Fireblade. While unveiling the products to be launched soon in the market, Honda also revealed it global brand slogan ‘The Power of Dreams’ with its adaptation as “Sach Kardenge Sapne” exclusively for India. While Dio is slated to hit markets by end of Jan, Dream Yuga has been scheduled for a May 2012 launch.
During the Auto Expo 2012, company spokesperson Naresh Kumar Rattan also shared with the media that the company was planning to invest about Rs 1,000 crore in India in 2012 and also plans to double its production capacity in the next two years.
For the record, Honda Motor Co exited Hero Honda completely last year after selling its 26 per cent share in the joint venture. Honda's latest strategy is being seen as a head on competition to its rival Hero MotoCorp. How both the companies fare in 2012 will be an interesting game to watch.
